Looks like REDTone Wimax is in Kuching, Sarawak for a quite a while now, and I was wondering if they managed to get good amount of subscribers to their Wimax service. Plus, the company was fined last year for not achieving the intended population coverage. When it comes to wireless broadband, Celcom is still dominating the market share in Sarawak particularly in areas not covered by other alternatives.

Up until now, the coverage areas for Redtone Wimax in Sarawak are still within the Kuching boundaries, even then not all parts of Kuching are covered. I wonder how many years more do they need to expand further.

There is also problem with their pricing of packages which is not competitive enough with other ISPs. Some have also complained about the services and speed, which is not up to par.

What I can say is that, REDTone lack the initiative to promote its packages and at the same time upgrade it services especially to home users. The company seemed to focus more on business market when in fact businesses would rather go for a cheaper alternative like fixed line broadband. So, it seems to be a failed venture into East Malaysia, as they are not doing well in Sabah either.

Well, all I can say is ALL BEST REDTone!

Their pricing is a total turn off. They should lower the price, get the volume, then they can get a bit of profit..

@ Cyril: Yeah, wonder why they don’t bother lowering.
@Bengbeng: Yes, but at least they are doing their best to expand the coverage of 3G and HSDPA. My area has decent HSDPA connection. So far so good.
