After DiGi and Maxis offered iPhone plans and packages to Malaysia, Celcom Axiata has yet to do so. Well, based on the StarBiz interview with the Axiata Group managing director and CEO (parent company of Celcom), Datuk Jamaludin Ibrahim claimed that they have yet to get a fair agreement or deal with Apple, which will allow them to sell  iPhone in the Malaysian market. He reiterated that the deal with Apple at the moment is not fair to Celcom but things may change in the future if a better deal can be negotiated.

Why has Celcom not brought in the iPhone?

We like the iPhone but we believe in getting an agreement that is fair to us. We do not think the current arrangement is fair to us. But things can change, it can be today, tomorrow or next year when we can roll out.

In the interview, Datuk Jalamludin also reckoned how android phones will be a big business in future and  people would spend more on data than voice calls. Well, that’s pretty obvious isn’t it? Android is evolving very rapidly, and with more smartphones manufacturers opting to use the OS, it makes sense to focus on android phones.
