With USB Flash drive getting bigger and bigger in size, you can now have a whole set of useful apps installed as your portable solutions. Let’s face it, when was the last time you plugged in your USB flash drive on your friend’s computer only to note that his or her computer did not have your perferred tools or apps installed? Well, here are a list of 13 super portable apps that you could consider. Feel free to add more via the comments section.

  1. Portable Chrome – Well, no doubt, Chrome is currently leading its way as one of the preffered browser. Having the portable version does save a lot of time.
  2. Truecrypt – Why is TrueCrypt first on the list? Simple. A multi-gig, easy-to-lose, unencrypted drive with your data on it is a terrible security risk. Truecrypt helps me keep all my private stuff locked down.
  3. CCleaner – A lot of the computers I work on look like they’ve never had a single file deleted from them. CCleaner makes short work of dumping gigs of trash files from them, and it tidies up the registry, too.
  4. CDBurner XP – Customer’s don’t always have good – or any – burning software installed. CD Burner XP solves that problem.
  5. VLC – Videolan wins as my portable media player because it supports so many formats and doesn’t require outside codecs. Can 100 million downloaders really be wrong? Ok, sure they can. But I still love VLC.
  6. Filezilla – Half the time I need Notepad++, it’s because I’m editing files on my FTP server from the road. Filezilla portable keeps all my sites accesible from wherever I am.
  7. Notepad++ – It never hurts to have a good text editor at your disposal, and portable Notepad++ is an excellent option. Tons of great features, like macro recording, syntax highlighting, tabbed interface, and much, much more.
  8. Foxit PDF Reader – I hate trying to open a manual on a customer’s PC only to learn they don’t have an Acrobat viewer installed. Foxit is my reader of choice, so I take it with me.
  9. PStart – It’s nice to have quick access to the tools on your flash drive, and PStart gives you that by adding an icon/menu in the system tray. It’s searchable, and there’s even a tab to store quick notes for yourself.
  10. ClamWin Portable is the popular ClamWin antivirus packaged as a portable app, so you can take your antivirus with you to scan files on the go.
  11. aMSN is a free open source MSN Messenger clone packaged as a portable app, so you can chat or video chat with your MSN contacts on the go.
  12. OpenOffice.org Portable is a complete office suite — including a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation tool, drawing package and database, so you can take all your documents and everything you need to work with them wherever you go.
  13. JkDefrag Portable is an easy to use disk defragmenter and optimizer, so you can fix-up hard drives on the go. JkDefrag Portable includes a handy custom interface to give you more control while still keeping everything simple. You can place it on your USB flash drive, iPod, portable hard drive or a CD and use it on any computer, without leaving any personal information behind.

So many apps in one flash drive. Back in year 2004, the biggest flash drive I know is the 500mb one. Cost aboutRm100+. And it can’t even fit in the whole movie, LoL.

And one more cool apps for your flash drive is the portable download manager, really useful.
