Fortinet: The Return of Ransomware and Rise of ‘Do-it-Yourself’ Botnets

Fortinet August Threat Landscape Report has indicated ransomware variant TotalSecurity with its biggest comeback since March. TotalSecurity loader (W32/FakeAlert.LU) will connect to a single server and request a single file, but the code changes on an hourly basis in order to avoid detection. In addition to ransomware, another highly detected infection this month is Zeus/ZBot, a do-it-yourself botnet kit that provides a malware creator all of the tools required to build and administer a botnet. One other notable attack this month is the recent Windows Help Center vulnerability, which was propelled to the front position in Fortinet’s top 10 attack list. BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 – Blackberry OS 6.0 Ready

Research In Motion (RIM) has introduced another new model of BlackBerry Curve series with the launch of new BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300. This smarthpone is equipped with a 2 megapixel camera, full QWERTY keyboard, optical trackpad, BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n connectivity, supporting high-speed 3G (HSDPA) networks around the world for an enhanced multimedia experience. BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 runs on BlackBerry 5 OS but is BlackBerry 6 ready, incorporating microSD/SDHC memory expansion slot that supports up to 32 GB storage capacity.
