It’s “Gawai” and “Pesta Keamatan” festive period again and it also means it’s less than two months before the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2010, which is held annually at the Sarawak Cultural Village since 1997. If you’re new to RWMF, it’s a 3-day music festival celebrating the diversity of “world music” with daytime music workshops, cultural displays, craft displays, food stalls, and main-stage evening concerts. Of course, the festival features a wide range of performances from traditional music, to world fusion and contemporary world music.

I went to last year’s edition of RWMF together with blogger friends (the unofficial first ever bloggers’ meet at RWMF), and am looking forward to this year’s RWMF, which will be held from 9th to 11th July 2010. Nevertheless, the Sarawak Tourism Board has decided to increase the ticket price to RM110 for a 1-day pass and RM300.00 for a 3-day pass (for adults – 12 years old and above). The price for children (aged 3 to 12 years old) is RM55 for a 1-day pass and RM150 for a 3-day pass. It’s an increase of about RM20 from last year’s pricing. Not sure what prompted the increase, perhaps an increase in operating cost. Anyway, I will still go and get a 1-day pass and most probably for Saturday.

Among the notable performers are BraAgas from Czeh Republic, De Temps Antan from Canada, Kimura-Ono Duo from Japan, and Novolima from Peru. This year’s edition also feature two groups from Sarawak, Bakih and Pingasan’K. You can check out the rest of the performers here.

I haven’t got my tickets though. Planning to get them soon. (I can’t make it this year!) For ticketing info, refer to this page. Hope to see you all there!
