iPhone 4 was released about two weeks ago and has created a lot of buzz among smartphones users and of course Apple fans especially weeks of leaked info prior to its official introduction at Worldwide Developer Conference 2010. Though much of its external looks were confirmed by the infamous leaked prototype, the hype on iPhone 4 is indeed more directed towards its operating system, iOS4 which is a renamed version of iPhone oS 4 since it also runs on other apple gadgets like iPod and iPad. There is also an improvement in terms of battery life and added features like a secondary VGA camera for video calling. I have compiled the specs for both iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS and compared accordingly.

iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS Comparison Chart

Key Highlights of iPhone 4

  • Thinner than iPhone 3GS
  • Video recording, HD (720p) with LED Flash
  • 5-megapixel still camera
  • Retina display for sharper images
  • Video Calling (FaceTime)
  • Sightly longer battery life
  • iOS 4 with a lot of improvement from iPhone OS 3.0

Apple has also introduced iAds to iPhone, which i personally don’t like especially when you’re on 3G plans. Downloading the ads would somehow consumes your bandwidths. For apps developers, it’s another revenue opportunities! Haha.

Release Dates

US, UK, Japan, France or Germany – June 24th (pre-order starting June 15th)

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland –  July 2010

The new iPhone will be released in an additional 24 countries in August, and another 44 in September.

Malaysia? It is rumoured that Maxis Malaysia is already arranging for the release of iPhone 4 in August, however it really depends on the availability of the phones. If the demand is too high globally, Apple might face problems rolling out iPhone 4 to all countries in time, similar to the case of Apple iPad, which has yet to be officially available in Malaysia.

Should I Get iPhone 4?

Well, if you have not owned any iPhone, iPhone 4 is definitely a good choice. If you’re already an iPhone 3GS user, well, i do think you should only upgrade to the latest iOS4 available on Apple Website starting 21st June unless you have some extra cash to splash out! Haha. For iPhone 3G and 2G users, perhaps it’s time for an upgrade since you’ll not be able to enjoy the features of the new OS.

i tried the ipad before. Honestly saying, i really dont know what’s the purpose of it. For me it’s just a pad, a combination of a bigger version of ipod touch and some part of macbook. Personally, investing in an iphone is way better than investing an ipad..

Yeah Cynthia, iPad is indeed an “oversized” iPhone. It’s tablet that aims to capitalise on the huger amount of apps available for iPhone OS. I personally don’t like iPad but will definitely look forward to its future improvements.

Hmmm.. This is better than the old one but somehow because of the policy changes toward software developer by Apple, i’m gonna stop supporting iPhone anymore.. Now i’m looking forward for next gen Andriod .

i am just wondering how much is the prizing range of iphone4 in malaysia?

    • KeeMan, June 23, 2010 @ 10:02 am Reply

In the grey market, some stores are selling iPhone4 for the price of around RM3000. Of course, these are units obtained from US and sold here.

Expect the price to be around 2.5k during the official release.

    Hi

There is a mistake on your comparison chart. iPhone 4 has only a 3.5 inch screen and not a 5 inch screen. 😛

    Rgds

Ops…didn’t notice that. Haha. Yes, it’s 3.5-inch. I must have deleted the 3. in front. Anyway, thanks for informing.
