Well oh well, we have come towards the final days of year 2007. It’s a meaningful year for Malaysia of course, as it’s the nation’s 50th anniversary as an independent nation. Undeniably, apart from the on-going hype of an early election since the beginning of 2007 as well as the controversial Angkasawan programme, we as Malaysians have been showered with a lot of unexpected “dramas” that have perhaps painted “dark images” on our proud and colourful canvas as a 50-year-old nation. We have seen “images” from high-profile crimes to the killing of innocent 8-year-old girl, from constant push for a better judiciary system to exposure of corruptions involving judges and lawyers, from unlawful road demonstrations to ungrateful minority, and most importantly we have seen signs of racial sentiment being abused for personal interest. I do think that Malaysians at large are still very united especially those who not are “polluted” by narrow-minded or political-driven groups. We should be grateful to be living in a country where we can share diverse cultures, festivals, food, languages, etc. Maybe some of us are too comfortable living in such a conducive environment until they forget how our nation was initially formed. All in all, I would say it has been a rather bumpy year for Malaysia and I do look forward to a better 2008 (of course, that would perhaps depends on the election results! :p) Anyway, Selamat Hari Raya Aidiladha, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well, it’s been yet another terrible “year-end period” for those living in states hit by extreme floods. Yeah, water, water everywhere. The rising death cases this year signifies how a lot of people are taking the natural disaster very lightly. Parents especially are allowing their small children to “play” and have their “a-la-songkran” celebration in the high rising water on the streets. Now, they should not blame others if something bad happened when they themselves do not bother to take good care of their children. However, my attention is not towards parenting but another more important national agenda - the upcoming general election. We all heard of the rumours that election is going to be held very soon, but with the unpredictable floods causing a lot of people to suffer from sudden lost of love ones and belongings, there is little sign that an election is going to be held that soon, at least not this year.
Then again my concern is not about when the election is going to be held, but more on how certain “YBs” have been using the flood as a tool for their pre-election campaign. Some are already starting to “buy votes” by so-called helping the flood victims. While i’m against their kind gesture of offering monetary and material help, it is rather “annoying” to see them suddenly become “active” when throughout their tenure as MP or assemblymen, they failed to pay even the slightly attention to what is happening in their areas. I guess the people should think really really hard when the election comes and cast their votes to those whom they are 100% sure can fulfill their responsibilities.

As predicted, it’s a tough December for the young Gunners. Playing away from home four in a trot, loosing some key players through injuries, and not forgetting physical “tiredness” that is starting to creep into the players ever since the day they lost to Sevilla last month. But looking at the performance of the Gunners against the diligent Boro side, the players did everything they could to come back after conceeding an early penalty. Of course, Boro deserves to win as they pass the ball better and are quick on their counter attacks. With Cesc, Hleb and Flamini sidelined due to injuries, Arsenal lack pace and creativity in attack, allowing Boro’s player to take control of the game.
It would have been a different game if Walcott and Denilson were allowed to start. Diarra seems “very new” in central midfield, and could not work well with Gilberto. Arsenal now need to bounce back and regain their confidence before facing old rival Chelsea at home next week. A win at Emirates will boost their title hopes and put pressure on other teams at the peak.
