OtterBox Defender for Galaxy S4: Unboxing and First Look

Owning a Samsung Galaxy S4 seems incomplete without having a solid protection especially when this super-thin smartphone can easily slip from your pocket during outdoor activities. Well, fear not, OtterBox Defender for Galaxy S4 may ease your concerns. I am lucky enough to get my hands on it and test it out for the first time. Here is my initial impression on OtterBox Defender.

The Unboxing

OtterBox Defender comes with a sleek packaging that includes the three-layer case and a belt-clip holster. It also contains a user-friendly manual.

The Case

The OtterBox Defender is specially designed to protect the phone against drops, shocks and the hardest impacts. It’s useful for heavy use and unexpected accidents. The case comes with three-layer protection: hi-impact polycarbonate case with built-in screen protector, interior foam cushion layer and a durable silicone that adsorbs impact.

The Case with its Layers and Holster

The belt-clip holster can actually be turned into a media viewing stand. A plus point for those who enjoy using Galaxy S4 as media player like me. Simply turn the clip and it works as a stand.

The polycarbonate case with built-in screen protector has a smooth and glossy look and creates a solid shell for Galaxy S4. It gives accessibility to all the phone features such as front and rear camera, LED flash, speaker, and microphone without blocking them as in other casing options. The built-in screen protector means you don’t need to lay the screen protector film on your Galaxy S4 anymore.

The durable silicone works very well too. I love its durability and flexibility. It feels smooth and easily fit the polycarbonate case. It has a “rubber” plugs for the main openings too, which include the charging port, headphone jack and volume controls. This prevent dust from gathering in those areas!

The Overall Feel

Despite its bulky look, the OtterBox Defender is essentially light and sleek. It also provides the extra grip with its  silicone layer. Although it does not protect the phone against water, it is indeed a solid case for those who enjoy rugged and adventurous activities. Watch out for my next post where I test OtterBox Defender further!
