Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) has launched its first official Android app on Google Play, currently known as UNIMAS Early Edition. The one-stop news aggregator allows you to obtain news updates and announcements from UNIMAS seamlessly with push notifications. It covers categories of announcements like general events, conferences, tenders and even vacancies.
Another notable feature in this app is its integration with your phone’s calendar. You can add any events to your calendar as a reminder just by tapping the “Add to Calendar” button. With this, you can say goodbye to manual inputting of events that you are keen to follow. The share tools are also available, permitting a smooth spreading of news piece to your preferred social media. The loading of news items is amazingly fast as it is very lightweight with low mobile data usage. On first glance, the app looks similar to Google Now Cards but it definitely has its strengths in sorting the news updates according to its categories in an organised and friendly interface.
Developed by Open Source Initiative and Advanced Technology Unit (OpSO), Centre for Information and Communication Technology Services (CICTS), this app is still undergoing improvements and any feedback from the users are welcome. The app is currently available on Google Play (Click Here to Download), and it is compatible with Android 4.0 and above.
