After the shutdown of MegaUpload.com, FileSonic has removed its public file sharing service. As stated on the website, users can now use the service only to “upload and retrieve files you have uploaded personally”. This is following the arrest of MegaUpload founder Kim Schmitz, and several other individuals for being part of $175 Million US Criminal Copyright Conspiracy.
With the sudden push for SOPA and PIPA to become a reality (despite being postponed), more and more file sharing websites will face similar fate. Can we expect 2012 to be a gloomy year for free public file sharing websites?
