No Android Gingerbread Update for HTC Desire

HTC has confirmed via its Facebook Fan Page that it won’t release Gingerbread update for its HTC Desire model.  The post clearly stated that the company blames the model’s low memory that hinders it from getting the much-awaited update. The HTC Sense is also blamed for the consumption of the phone’s memory.

Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.

Many HTC Desire users are disgusted with the announcement, with many claimed it’s another marketing strategy to force its users to get a newer model such as HTC Desire S, Desire HD or Desire Z. The weird thing is HTC ChaCha with lower memory is getting an Gingerbread update! HTC must answer this as soon as possible!

Updates: HTC has decided to release a cut-down version of Gingerbread update for HTC Desire.
