In line with the government announced the budget last year, TM is now launching the RM50 RM38 per month package for university students. This package is for a netbook with free Streamyx broadband (384kbps) for 2 years. Some people have been asking me regarding the package, so I guess I want to share my opinion on it here.
The RM50 RM38 per month package comes with:
HP Mini 210 (Intel Atom N450, 1GB Memory, 250GB hard disk, Windows 7 Starter, 2-year warranty)
Now, the package looks good on paper, but wait til you see the long list of terms and conditions. Here are some of them:

I personally think it’s a big NO NO. Here are the reasons why:
While RM50 RM38 per month is a lure for most university students, I do think students these day can afford to buy laptops as most of them are able to secure loans or scholarships. Plus, the price for laptops and netbooks are very low now. There are also other Wireless Broadband options available out there which offers better service, mobility and price! TM should in fact reduce the price of existing packages to encourage people to continue using its service!

MH : Yup, some TMpoint will not accept masters application..I live in Penang so i submitted my application to BM TMpoint on early this month. My friend went to bayan baru TMpoint but they rejected his application, then he went to georgetown n got accepted!
Yes, u r right afad. i wonder what r they actually doing. not standardize at all. different ppl say different thing. so is just depends on ur luck on the day. =)
Typical TM isn't it. Services always below par and lack standardization.
i am a second year undergraduate student. May i know what type of endorsement do i need to prepare so that i can apply for this package?
Thanks Afad.
Finally, i managed to subscribe for this package after 3 attempts in two weeks, luck was on my side the day i submitted. I was nearly give up in pursuing this, after several calls to the TM hotline, and personally sit down discuss with one of the branches' manager. Indeed, they are very inconsistent in carrying out this offer, i must say. typical TM, they must change only then we will talk about the changes of Malaysia.
when is the promotion end ???
nice! o_O
No specific expiry date. It's part of Government budget for 2010, so expect it to ends by 31 December 2010.
Understand from one of the branches' manager, they will review the program in May, could be continue(according to him), but i remain sceptical , as this is co-sponsor program by the government, doubt it will continue after that. Grab it asap if you are eligible.
can u explain about the hp mini 210? is it free or it will be deducted from our ptptn?? explain me in details plizz...
