Maxis Malaysia is offering new smartphone packages for Android-powered devices. Maxis is providing discounted price on five selected models: Samsung Galaxy i7500, the LG GW620 (Eve), the HTC Legend (A6363), the Motorola Droid and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10i. if you sign up to their value plans and data plans. There is also no pre-booking whatsoever, all you need to do is to visit Maxis Centres from 1st May onwards to purchase the phones.

So what’s the deal?

In order to get the special discounted price (about RM500+ cheaper than normal retail price), you’ll need to subscribe to  VALUE PLAN + DATA PLAN. The value plans eligible are Value Plus 50, Value Plus 80, Value Plus 150, Value Plus 250 and Value Plus 500. Details on the value plans are available here. The data plans (mainly for "internet usage") are 500MB, 1.5GB and 3GB.

So, the minimum subscription package that you need to pay is Value Plan 50+500MB Data Plan (RM50+RM58) – RM10 rebate for Data Plan = RM98 every month, for a 12-month contract. This is assuming your usage of the Value (Voice) Plan is very low.

What if I’m an existing Maxis subscriber?

Maxis did mention that there will be other special pricing for existing Maxis subscriber. So watch out for that.

But I thought Android Market is not available in Malaysia?

Android Market (for Apps) Malaysia will be launched soon, but no conclusive confirmation on this yet. But I do think the telco will do their very best to make this a reality. So no worries on that.

Hi, I’m just wondering where you heard news that there will be special pricing for existing Maxis users. Any idea when that will be announced?

    Hi Kelwin,

I got it from Maxis website, under FAQ. I’m not sure whether it’s just marketing gimmick or what but they haven’t confirm anything on packages for existing customers.

From what I know, at some Maxis centres, you’ll be able to buy the phone if you’re already a Maxis post-paid subscriber.

Can I sign up a Value Plan 50 with my current number, and sign up another new number for Data Plan to get the low price phone?

    • KeeMan, June 20, 2010 @ 9:55 pm Reply

Don’t think so. Should bundle both Value Plan and data plan. But then again, you can always check with the people at Maxis Centre. They might give you better offer.
