Apple iPhone has arrived in Malaysia! Thanks Maxis!

Well well well…no more over-priced unlocked versions of iPhone, Maxis Malaysia now brings you the official Apple iPhone 3G. Yes, Apple fans in Malaysia can now celebrate! The iPhone 3G combines three products in one – a phone, widescreen iPod and an Internet device. And with tens of thousands of applications to be downloaded (from games to financial apps), you get everything at your fingertips. Maxis will be launching the phone on 20th March at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, and customers can now pre-book the phone before 17 March, which enables them to join the launching event as invited guests.

Maxis is offering this phone in 4 i-values plans, which differs in price according to contract duration (6, 12, and 24 months). When it comes to iPhone, you can’t use it to the max without a reliable telco package especially in terms of Data plan. I mean what’s the point of having an unlocked iPhone on a prepaid plan with limited data usage and expensive rate, right? Unless of course it’s meant for showing off rather than practical use.  Maxis offers a maximum of 3GB package with RM375 monthly commitment.

For customers who sign up for a monthly commitment of RM375 over a 24-month period on the iValue 4 plan, the iPhone 3G 8GB will be free of charge. Oh well, not totally FREE as for new Maxis users, you need to pay a deposit of RM1000, which will be returned to you from 1st month onwards (until the 5th month). This is an attractive offers for those who don’t want to fork out a lump sum of RM2000 for the iPhone and still enjoy the data package. But then, RM375 per month could still be pricey for some though it’s pretty reasonable for a package that consist of 3GB data usage and 2500 mins of voice calls.

One thing Maxis need to do is to improve its 3G coverage nationwide. And to assure this, Maxis chief executive officer Sandip Das stated that Maxis is making a RM1.6bil expansion plan for its 3G data network. This would be an even happier news for Malaysians to enjoy iPhone.

Oh well, check out Maxis website for further details.
