Tun Dr M’s Blog Moved….

Chedet.com

As many strong followers of Chedet.com have taken note, Tun Dr M’s blog has now moved to a new independent "blog server", no longer depending on Blogger.com who have blocked the site due to suspected spam as reported here. So now, Tun Dr. Mahathir has a "new" blog powered by Movable Type, which i think Tun knows nothing about :) as there is a "technical crew" behind him that help set up the blog. Anyhow, the new blog system now requires readers to register before posting a comment, as to avoid constant spamming. For record, Chedet.com is now almost two months old and has over 2 million hits, making it the most visited blog in Malaysia which has an Alexa traffic rank of traffic rank of 30,025. It’s a amazing for a blog to achieve such fame in such a short time. Well, of course, he was once our Prime Minister, remember? And his constant attacks on Pak Lah’s governance are definitely a great source of interest among Malaysians, who prefer to spend time talking non-stop about politics than going to work. :)

What BN Should Learn from Election 2008

Posted On Mar 10, 2008 // Current Issues//4 Comments

Well well, guess everyone is having a big discussion as to how the opposition or Barisan Rakyat managed to snap 5 states in style, especially for DAP which has done a magnificient job in sweeping their seats in Penang, Selangor and Perak. The truth is, like what Dr. M aptly put, it’s not so much of supporting the Opposition, but it’s rather more on NOT supporting BN for their poor record during the last 3-4 years. With racial unrest and security issues painting the backdrop, Malaysians are expressing their protest with the less-than-convincing efforts by the BN government to lower inflation and ease the rising cost of livings especially among urban folks. But here are few lessons that BN should learn from Eection 2008. (These are solely my opinion and doesn’t reflect my ideology or any instituitions that i represent).

1. Ignoring BONUS for Civil Servants is really a BAD IDEA! Yeah, it may sounds weird, but when you look at the majority that the Opposition candidates grabbed in the five states, it’s huge. And i reckon, to get such large majority, it also means that most government servants especially in the five states that the opposition won are voting against BN!! So No BONUS for them means NO Vote for BN! Haha.

2. Sending a doctor cum model to SPACE is a FOOLISH IDEA! Well, we have talked a lot on this issue. The money spent on that "short trip" would have please more Malaysians by providing better facilities, incentives, etc!

3. Allowing "under-perform" candidiates to stay is a STUPID idea. This election saw more "casualties" among the minister cum BN candidates than ever. Most of them are "seasoned" figure and had not been performing well. I can’t understand why they are allowed to stay.

4. Being over-confident and not working hard for the people is a Dangerous Idea. For far too long some of BN candidates are acting like they will win their seats forever and ignore the outcry of the people that they represent. Those representing people of Penang and Selangor are "good" example.

Well, i do hope Pak Lah will wake up from his sleep and start looking at strategies to please the people. And for the oppositions that are ruling the five states, all the best. This is the chance to deliver what you have promised and make use of the opportunity before the people decide again in 4 years time!

Four Reasons Not To Vote!

vote

Alas, today is nomination day for Malaysia’s 12th general election. And as election day is getting nearer and nearer, the various mantra and voices heard from both the government camp as well as the opposition can be rather disturbing to your ears. Of course, eligible voters like me will be pondering whether or not to exercise their rights! And if you can’t think of a good reason to comfort yourself from being "accused" of not voting, i offer you my 4 good old reasons NOT to vote in the upcoming election.

1. Not Voting is Popular - Yeah, contrary to popular belief, not voting is in fact popular in Malaysia! Malaysia has about 25 million population, and out of this number, there are only 10.5 million eligible voters. And if my mathematics is correct, that’s 42% of the population, with another 10% never register as a voter. And history has shown that out of this 42%, only 32% of the eligible voters will go out and vote! So here’s the big picture: 48% Not eligible to vote + 10% never register + 10% don’t bother = 68% stay at home! The remaining 32% will join in the fun of electing their victor who will govern the country for another 4-5 years, all in the principle of "MAJORITY Rule" (32%?).

2.Too Much Hassle -  I bet most people use this reason. Imagine you’re working in Johor Bahru and have to go or drive all the way back to Kelantan or Perlis, just to cast your vote. Not to mention the heavy traffics that you need to cope with. And yeah I’ll be checking the statistics of how many eligible voters had died on election day due to road accidents, but i can assure you the number is alarming! :)

3. It’s Dangerous to Vote! - In relation to reason No. 2, it’s dangerous to vote because the chance of ONE vote out of that 10 million casts will affect the outcome is much LOWER than the probability of being accidentally killed en route to the polling place! Be it road accidents, sudden attack by radical groups, or even being mistakenly identified as an opposition leader and get hit by the FRU!

4. It’s not Democratic at all - This is pretty much related to Reason 1. How can the "winning party" claimed that they have the majority rule when only 32% of the population vote for them. What about the other 68%? Isn’t that "minority rule" instead. Not forgetting the ever popular arguments on our election comission, the head whom is chosen by the "ruling party". Don’t you think the comission should be neutral? So, if you don’t want to be part of this "immoral acts", please don’t go and vote!

Well, for those who are not convinced with my four reasons, you can go ahead and vote, but do not force others to follow you! Besides, it’s our rights to vote, and it’s also our rights NOT to vote!

Of Indecisiveness, Commitment and Election

Posted On Feb 20, 2008 // Current Issues//6 Comments

Remember when you were a child?  Well, I’m sure you remember something about your childhood, so let me be a little more specific. Do you remember when you were a little kid, walking through a toy store with your parents, and you saw that GI Joe or Barbie Doll that you just had to have? Then, as you walked over to the next aisle with your parents, you realized that what you really wanted was the Superman action figure? But hold on, because when you got to aisle number 3, wasn’t it the cook’n’bake oven or the remote control car that you just had to have? Well, I’ll tell you now that just because you think things have changed, that doesn’t mean they really have.

Politicians (government or oppositions alike) are no different than the rest of us. When they were little kids, they couldn’t decide what one toy they wanted to have either. And the amazing thing is, these decisions we make, then change, only add fertilizer to our growing forest of indecision.  This isn’t a personal decision.  This isn’t directed at any one individual or group (well, except for politcians).  Whether it is changing your idea’s of what toy you want to play with, significant other you want to marry (only to divorce down the road), or decide what political issues you want to support, everyone changes their mind on something. The thing is, politicians just happen to be more in the spotlight and thus scrutinized more by the media because there is always someone looking for a different angle on an issue just so there is a new story to tell.

Well, as we all know, politicians often change their mind.  Maybe you think they’re a flip flopper, maybe you think they never got off the seesaw when they were a kid because they couldnt’ decide if they liked being up or down, or maybe you just think they are the scum of the earth and will say whatever they need to at any time to get a vote.  There is one other option though.  While we may hear them being criticized or be the ones dishing it out ourselves, anyone who has been elected to political office on multiple occasions must have some brains and be doing something right.  How can they get re-elected despite constantly changing their perspective?  Well, they just happen to be smart enough to realize that the world is constantly changing and they need to change with it.  If you don’t change your perspective and realize that in a different scenario a different course of action may be a better fit, you aren’t smart enough to be leading this country.

I admit I’m very indecisive on a lot of issues, mostly because I’m so laid back. I’ll just go along with whatever other people are saying. When this blog was started, I was extremely excited to start contributing regularly. Well, I’m not sure how many articles I’ve written for this blog, by I know I haven’t done anything in the last few months. Why would this happen? Well, I’m not always committed, not to the blog, but to what to write about. Sometimes, I’ll have a good idea, but before I get a chance to sit in front of a computer and write something about it I’ll change my mind. Well, all I can say now is that I’m definately commmitted to this blog, but I reserve the right to change my mind at any time.

Parliment Dissolved, Election On!

Posted On Feb 13, 2008 // Current Issues//1 Comment

Well, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has announced that Parliament has been dissolved, paving the way for the 12th general election. So, it’s time to get ready for heavy traffic, party banners, as well as propaganda!! The ruling government, Barisan National will have a tough time dealing with inflation, crime rates, and racial unrest among the Chinese and Indian communities. The thing is, we as Malaysian, especially for first-time voters, should try to make use of the rights and vote for the party or MP that is capable of delivering what is wanted and needed.  It’s better than sitting there and start complaining about the electoral system. Oh well, i’m not really into politics, but just hope this coming election will not affect our economy and stability.
