Tips to Remain INSANE!

Posted On Apr 20, 2008 // Lost Paradise//8 Comments

I really need to apologise to all my faithful readers (assuming i have about 10..hehe), especially to those who regularly visit my blog to check what i’ve been up to. Well, I’ve not been able to blog that often. In fact, i can only manage a 4-hour sleep daily, except for an extra 2 hours on weekends. That’s the life i need to cope with when i’m studying and working at the same time. The decision to convert my master’s project to PhD seems to have increased the level of workloads as well as my participation in various freelance jobs, which include among others: final year project/theses consultation, editing, proofreading, web design, materials design as well as tutoring. Anyhow, i think there are people out there who suffer greater workload than me. So, here are some tips that might just help you to maintain a healthy level of Insanity:

1. Text/SMS to your own number with the message "Are you insane?"
2. Switch channel every 5 seconds and repeat until you fall asleep.
2. Every Time Someone Asks You To Do Something, Ask If They Want Ketchup with that.
3. Put Your Garbage Can On Your Desk And Label It “In.”
4. As Often As Possible, Skip Rather Than Walk.
5. Go To A Poetry Recital And Ask Why The Poems Don’t Rhyme
6. When The Money Comes Out The ATM, Scream “I Won!, I Won!”
7. Visit all stores in a shopping mall and start pretending you’re a millionaire who can’t be bothered to spend a penny on their stuff.
8. Watch The Apprentice, and start speculating when will Trump’s hair start to fall!
9. Start checking all the blogs available and leave a comment "I’ve been here!"

Haha….the best way to remain insane is by Smiling when other people are Frowning….

Voice: Form or Letter Not Sufficient to Inform Conversion

In response to Govt to have regulation for converts to inform family(The Star, 10 April 2008)

Kudos to Pak Lah for thinking of the need for converts (to Islam) to inform their family members of their intentions to convert by filling-in a form or writing a letter. Nevertheless, a form or a letter is not sufficient, and can be wrongly manipulated by interested parties. A convert-to-be might take the easy way out by falsifying declaration that his/her family has been informed.

While the decision to convert is an individual right, the government has an obligation to all of its citizens (irrespective of their ethnicity and religion) to protect and minimize negative impact on the welfare of the children and/or other members of the family. The government should not be supportive and protective of the convert only. The government through its appointed agency or representative needs to get the convert-to-be and his/her family members together for a face-to-face meeting, even if the convert-to-be is at his/her death-bed. The convert should then make a declaration of his/her intentions in front of the family and the appointed representative as a witness. In addition, the convert-to-be needs to make an open declaration of the consequences of his/her actions, such as the intentions to convert their children, or to give away his/her property the Islamic way, etc. The family members of the convert-to-be should not be handicapped or left in the dark when the convert starts to take action after his/her conversion. This would allow equal footing and all fairness to family members to make the necessary preparations to defend their rights, and not left feeling "bullied" by the privileges bestowed on the convert by his/her conversion.

On another note, the government should also reconsider the issue of children being converted just because the father has converted to Islam. Both parents came into union and had children before the father converted to Islam. Thus, both parents have equal rights on deciding their children’s religious beliefs and their future. The government or the law cannot insist that the children become Muslim just because the father has converted to Islam. The matter have to be solved through a just legal civil process, so that the children are not manipulated or taken advantage of, and his wife and other family members are not victimized, again by the privileges bestowed on the convert by his/her conversion (to Islam).

Once again, kudos to the Pak Lah for being sensitive to the spiritual rights of Malaysians, but this small step need to be bigger and equally protective of all citizens of Malaysia.

The Painful Facts about Malaysia - 18PL

I discovered Uncyclopedia.org by accident, a site which claimed to the parody for Wikipedia.org.

And a quick search for the keyword "Malaysia", will give you this:

http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/Malaysia

Now, read through every single fact on that site about Malaysia. It may sound painful, but most of the facts are truthful enough that many Malaysians tend to deny.  What attracts me the most is the Samy Vellu list of famous quotes:

  • Samy Velu on pos laju "BESOK KIRIM, HARI INI SAMPAI"
  • Samy while ashamed "Kemaluan saya besar"
  • Samy on drugs campaign, "Jangan hisap dada"
  • Samy on national television "Toll naik sikit, Manyak marah saya. You ingat semua ini toll saya punya bapa punya kah!"
  • Samy on his modesty: "sebenarnya, kemaluan saya Sangat-sangat besar"

Well, enjoy reading the rest of the page! And of course, any comments, you may post it here. Hahaha.. :)

Tough tough week

Posted On Mar 24, 2008 // Lost Paradise//No Comment

Yeah, i know, i’ve not been blogging frequently of late. Thanks to my increasing workload and the trouble of getting connected here at home. I’ll make blogging a weekly routine now. Hehe. So what’s keeping me busy? First is of course preparing two conference paper for ITSymposium 2008 and Cyberg2008. Then, got myself engaged in two new template designs, one for Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, and the other for Registrar’s Office, UNIMAS. Both are template specially designed for Joomla content management system, the backbone of all microsites in UNIMAS portal. And of course, i’m also busy with my own Master’s research. But i can’t understand why i manage to do all that in one week and still have time to enjoy my other routines like watching TV and playing games! Haha.

And yeah, on Good Friday last week, my housemates (Mag, LC), and I went to our friend’s (Tracey) kampong at Bengoh, somewhere along the way to Borneo Heights. Stayed there for a night and enjoy the "peaceful" kampong life (which reminds me a lot of my own kampong back in Kelantan). Well, not that peaceful anyway, considering that part of the kampong is under development, thanks to another mega "dam" project by the state government, powered by the ever popular Naim Cendana. I’ll post more on this in my next post.

And to sum up a tough week, Arsenal second defeat of the season to Chelsea. Though i’m expecting the young guns to lose but it’s really tough to accept when Man Utd is now 5 points ahead, after Liverpool make themselves pay for sloppy defending. Anyhow, still dreaming of Arsenal winning the Champion’s League, never mind the EPL. Hehe. :)

What BN Should Learn from Election 2008

Posted On Mar 10, 2008 // Current Issues//4 Comments

Well well, guess everyone is having a big discussion as to how the opposition or Barisan Rakyat managed to snap 5 states in style, especially for DAP which has done a magnificient job in sweeping their seats in Penang, Selangor and Perak. The truth is, like what Dr. M aptly put, it’s not so much of supporting the Opposition, but it’s rather more on NOT supporting BN for their poor record during the last 3-4 years. With racial unrest and security issues painting the backdrop, Malaysians are expressing their protest with the less-than-convincing efforts by the BN government to lower inflation and ease the rising cost of livings especially among urban folks. But here are few lessons that BN should learn from Eection 2008. (These are solely my opinion and doesn’t reflect my ideology or any instituitions that i represent).

1. Ignoring BONUS for Civil Servants is really a BAD IDEA! Yeah, it may sounds weird, but when you look at the majority that the Opposition candidates grabbed in the five states, it’s huge. And i reckon, to get such large majority, it also means that most government servants especially in the five states that the opposition won are voting against BN!! So No BONUS for them means NO Vote for BN! Haha.

2. Sending a doctor cum model to SPACE is a FOOLISH IDEA! Well, we have talked a lot on this issue. The money spent on that "short trip" would have please more Malaysians by providing better facilities, incentives, etc!

3. Allowing "under-perform" candidiates to stay is a STUPID idea. This election saw more "casualties" among the minister cum BN candidates than ever. Most of them are "seasoned" figure and had not been performing well. I can’t understand why they are allowed to stay.

4. Being over-confident and not working hard for the people is a Dangerous Idea. For far too long some of BN candidates are acting like they will win their seats forever and ignore the outcry of the people that they represent. Those representing people of Penang and Selangor are "good" example.

Well, i do hope Pak Lah will wake up from his sleep and start looking at strategies to please the people. And for the oppositions that are ruling the five states, all the best. This is the chance to deliver what you have promised and make use of the opportunity before the people decide again in 4 years time!
