Google Acquired Picnik – Online Photo Editor

Yes, Google has finally acquired Picnik, and online photo editing website. Using Picnik, you can crop, do touch-ups and add cool effects to your photos, all without leaving your web browser. Based on the Google blog entry, it is expected that Google will be doing integration of some of their apps with Picnik, a step which would make Google a more complete web suite for all.

Oh yeah, this comes as a great news. Maxis no longer "monopolise" the IPhone packages in Malaysia. DiGi has already setup a teaser website for iPhone 3GS available at this page. You can also sign up for latest updates. According to the sources, DiGi will be releasing its packages latest by April. So, we can expect a tougher competition for Maxis and hopefully we’ll expect better and affordable packages from DiGi.

Mozilla released Firefox 3.5.8 on 17th Feb 2010, with some minor updates on security issues and other known issues. The update actually covers several fixes for unexpected crashes.

Google Buzz – Not Just Another Social Media?

Google rolled out its new social media baby on Tuesday in a not so unique name "Google Buzz". Instead of a standalone social media portal, Google Buzz is embedded into your Gmail account. Google, however, claimed that it is still in the process of enabling the features for all Gmail users. If you can’t wait, you can learn how to try it out immediately via this page.

What is Google Buzz?

Google Buzz will let you share photos, links, videos, and status updates through your Gmail inbox or your mobile device’s Web browser. Yup, sounds familiar? Microsoft and Yahoo! claimed they have offered such features for years. As far as I remember, Microsoft’s Window Live (or Hotmail) does offer similar features same as Yahoo profiles too.

But what makes Google Buzz stands out is perhaps its "autofollow" feature, that automatically follow people for you. Another difference its the alert and comments made within Buzz will appear on your Gmail Inbox. Okay, that doesn’t sounds good to me because with that it means your inbox will be full of "unwanted" comments. Perhaps Gmail team will sort this out by creating a separate tab for Buzz notifications.

Not Just Another Social Media?

Yeah, maybe, but i doubt users would enjoy Buzz as much as they enjoy Facebook and Twitter. Perhaps not now and I bet Google will constantly improve Buzz the same way they did on Gmail. Before that time comes, I’ll be Buzzing around!

Scam Alert: CIMB BANK BERHAD has given you an E-Gift Voucher

I received a surprised mail today and I thought it’s just too good to be true: I won RM500! What a way to start Lunar New Year? Haha. Yeah right. At first glance, the mail looks convincing with its terms and condition stated like an actual voucher giveaway. I quickly check the links and sender email address and as expected, it was not from CIMB or CIMB Clicks. Plus, Firefox reported web forgery once you clicked on the ads. It was attempted as a phising site in which you need to log on to your CIMB clicks account to claim the voucher. I guess a lot of you are smart enough to identify it. Just posting this in case some of you are wondering whether it’s true.
