Malaysia – Exam-Oriented Nation?
3 CommentsPosted by KeeMan on November 19, 2007 under Current Issues
Whenever the word "kiasu" is mentioned, people will immediately think of Singapore and of course Singaporeans' all-must-win attitude. But hey, believe it or not, i think Malaysia is now overtaking our neigbour as far as the level of kiasuism is concern. First, we "build" our own cars, then we have the world's once tallest building. After that, we send our first "angkasawan" to ISS. But those areĀ ... more.

Malaysian varsities fail to make top 200

I read this article (shown below) from NST and thought that the situation highlighted should have been expected since nothing much has been done to address the problems in our local varsities. Ministry of Higher Education with its new Higher Education Blue Print should do something fast and save our universities from dropping its standards and qualities. Producing quality graduates and enhancing... more.

When Democracy is not the best policy

I was having a healthy (by excluding those swear words in Kelantanese-Malay dialect) debate with a couple of middle-age men yesterday amidst the festive atmosphere of Hari Raya Puasa. The hot topic was initially on the upcoming election but eventually diverted to some political attacks on the current government. They debated on a lot of issues but the justifications they gave are very shallow and... more.

My oh my, after spending around RM90 million to send Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor to space, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation is said to be planning to send the second angkasawan Faiz Khaleed to space, in 2 years time. The Minister, Dato' Sri Dr. Jamaludin Jarjis, even proudly announced that another competition will be held to select a backup candidate for Faiz Khaleed, the army de... more.

Sharing a Life – Miracle for Hui Yi

Just when the heart from the first donor was rejected by her body (due to her intense immune system), miracles happened. A second heart from another donor came to the rescue. And thank God, the operation was successful and the second heart was well accepted by her body. It was a great decision by Yoon Kiong's (20-year-old accident victim) parents to donate his organs for the needy. Perhaps,... more.

Of Myanmar, Morality and Mankind

For the last couple of days, it was little Nurin's case that sparked the anger in me especially as to the level of morality among fellow Malaysians (whoever brutally killed her shall not rest in peace!!). Today it irked me to see the front page of New Strait Times, which showed the picture of a dead Buddhist monk thrown into the river, amidst the political unrest in Myanmar. What is the Junta go... more.

In Malaysia, teachers have to go to “war” alone

I am very much attracted to the comments given by Dhaliwal as appeared on NST (July 24) on "What is a teacher to do?". It's true that parents nowadays are pampering their children too much, and putting all the responsibilities of educating their children on the teachers' shoulder. However, I am not blaming the parents for doing so as it is not wrong for them to protect their children (or in most c... more.

Pak Lah Kahwin Lagi…

Yes, it's confirmed. On June 9, Malaysian Prime Minister Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will marry Jeanne Abdullah in a private ceremony. Weird enough, Jeanne is his late wife's former sister-in-law. Jeanne was married to Endon's younger brother but the two had split more than 15 years ago. Dato' Seri Abdullah's first wife, Allahyarham Datin Seri Endon Mahmood, died of cancer in October 2005. We... more.

Go Green!!

Today is World Environment Day (WED)! The slogan selected for this year is Melting IceĀ a Hot Topic? It's pretty much a reminder for us about the rapid change in our climate and the global warming issues. Most of us are complaining about the hot weather but very few actually do something about it. They would rather spend more times in air-conditioned room rather than do something that is worthwhi... more.
