Yasmin Ahmad Dies at 51: A Big Loss to Malaysia

I have to admit, I burst into tears when I got the news on the passing of Malaysia’s renowned filmmaker, Yasmin Ahmad. I have been her avid fan, from her heart-touching TV advertisements to controversial films like Gubra and Muallaf. She was and will forever be the true icon of 1Malaysia spirit. It’s a big loss to Malaysia! May God bless her soul and rest in peace Yasmin!

KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned film and advertising director Yasmin Ahmad died here at about 11.25pm on Saturday night.

Her death was confirmed by Media Prime Group Chief Operations Officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Farid Ridzuan, who was at the Damansara Specialists Hospital, when contacted by Bernama.

Yasmin, 51, collapsed while presenting a working paper at Sri Pentas, the headquarters of the private television station TV3 on Thursday and was rushed to the Damansara Specialists Hospital.

She was reported to have suffered a stroke and brain haemorrhage.

    OMG, this is so unexpected. Her last blog post was on July 22. Everyone would be so, so, so sad.

    my fave director of all… all the raya, merdeka or other ads won’t be that much fun anymore… :’(
