REDTone’s WiMAX Kicks Off in Kuching

Great news to those in Kuching who have been waiting for WiMAX (Worldwide Inter-operability for Microwave Access) service. REDtone International Bhd launched its Sarawak service on April 2, 2009, with four based stations. The base stations in Kuching are in Muara Tabuan, BDC Crystall, Jalan Pending and Bukit Djin. The company is currently expanding its network coverage to cover more areas in Kuching as well as Miri by year end.

REDtone has designed five packages from as low as RM138 to RM1,088 a month for a 2Mbps downlink/2Mbps uplink bandwidth to suit customer needs. It also comes with bundled Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) lines. I tried to Google for their website and apparently, the site does not contains much info on the packages. Will dig further and report back on this.

UPDATE Here is the latest package rates:

More Updates

It has come to my attention that REDTone’s WIMAX in Kuching is not up to what has been expected. Judging from the limited market, they didn’t put much effort promoting there packages. In fact some users have complained about their poor services and connection speed. One friend of mine actually do a comparison between REDTone’s Wimax and Celcom Standard 68 package. To his surprise, Celcom won!! So surely, they really need to buckle up and do better!!
