I’m not sure how many of you out there actually uses XunLei or Thunder 5 as your download manager. Well, i have to say, it’s not just any download manager. It’s definitely super fast, both for direct leeching and torrent downloading. While i’ve been a loyal user of uTorrent, i do reckon that XunLei can be super fast when downloading torrent files from international sites like Mininova, Isohunt or Demonoid. And of course, XunLei’s portal (powered by Gougou) also provide links to various torrent files (particularly for chinese-related content, music, TV series, movies).
Below are my personal reviews on XunLei:
- The speed is amazingly fast.
- If you’re downloading a torrent with a list of files, especially full episodes from a TV Series, you’ll notice that XunLei will always make sure it download the files according to the rank or sequence. Meaning you get to watch Episode 1 when Episode 2 is still downloading.
- Always disable UPNP and use the default TCP port (80) to achieve better download speed.
- XunLei is only in Chinese. Despite that, English translation file is available thanks for the effort of HeHehunter. Do visit his site for the file.
- Despite its speed, XunLei only work on public trackers as it functions as a "spoof" HTTP reader. Some private trackers will not allow this for security purposes.
- If you’re downloading from a tracker with ratio limit, XunLei is not recommended as the seeding (uploading) speed can be very slow, hence lower your sharing ratio.
- XunLei can consume a lot of memory when you’re downloading too many files and it doesn’t integrate well with other download manager.

How come when I try to open my torrent files with thunder 5 (HeHeHunter’s version) it says not a valid file but they work perfectly with utorrent

when using thunder 5, i received a error “invalid path or file name” but when it can be opened with BitComet. Can you help me? I’ve trying change the file name from chinese to english and it still doesn’t work. Please advise. Thanks

It’s about 3.3 KB/second download speed for the 9.7 MB file.

Download Xunlei Thunder 5.8.14 has failed at 3%. Here is the error message in Firefox:
Thunder5.8.14.706.exe.part could not be saved, because the source file could not be read.

Should be your internet connection. Try using a download manager to download it first, like Free Download Manager.

Del, for your info, xunlei or thunder and PPS stream are not available for Mac at the moment. You could try install http://www.winehq.org/ to allow you to use the software in Mac.

Hi Raymond, no Mac version for Xunlei at the moment. So far no Mac program that is similar to xunlei, but you can try other download accelerators.

yo dude well mine is not downloadin fast it started off really well (full speed).so i cued up a whole set of stuff(to download 1 at a time) and now just a few kb(no more than 15) any idea what has gone wrong

i used xunlei b4 but since i’ve formatted my pc and my fucking friend installed xp service pack 3 for my pc and now i completely cannot view chinese at all.. and i cant even install xunlei.. i love xunlei its extremely fast but now i only can use u torrent which is super slow.. when i use xunlei i can get 40kbps with 40 seeds with one download.. but now i only get 0.1kbps with same seeds and same amount of download.. since my os can’t view chinese so flash get is my optional.. may i ask? between thunder 5 and flash get… which one is better and faster?

@Shadow: Xunlei is still faster than Flashget when it comes to BT download. But for direct HTTP downloads, both are equally good.
