Happy 50th Merdeka!

Posted On Aug 31, 2007 // Lost Paradise//No Comment

Happy Merdeka to all. And while the nation is celebrating it’s golden jubilee, I really can’t believe that I’ve been born into this nation for almost 25 years. When i flipped back on my journal of “What I’ve Done Each Year”, i was a bit disappointed with myself for i’ve not been contributing to the nation for quite a while. But i guess, there are plenty to come as i’m about to embark on a different route. I do agree with most people saying that Malaysia’s achievement in 50 years is really tremendous, considering it took more than 50 years for some nations to be on the map of the world. Of course, we cannot be content of what we have now, but must always look forward for a better and greater Malaysia. But if we just sit there and complain, it won’t help the nation to progress. We need to play our parts no matter how small or how big it is. Then, we can say to ourselves, “hey at least i did that for Malaysia!”. :) Happy Merdeka!

Oh My God, I’m SICK

Today, i broke my personal record of sitting in front of my laptop completing a multimedia presentation for 7 hours straight, right from 9am to 4pm non-stop! I even skipped my lunch with only a big bottle of mineral water accompanying my day. That goes to show how important that presentation is. :p Nah, it’s an excuse. Was enjoying doing it actually. That happens to me when i start to hook up with something, i can forget the whole world. I’ve been over-worked lately, doing a lot of things at one go, not to mention that ever busy schedule of studying for Masters. And all that caused me to fall sick hours before i made this post. The body temperature rose and I’m suspecting a flu coming, no thanks to the rapid changing of weather as well as my lack of sleep.

So, tomorrow will take a full rest, no laptop, no internet. I deserve it i suppose, looking back at what i’ve done the whole two weeks. I doubt anyone can cope with it like the way i did. :p Oh well, better sleep now, headache….

In The Name of Merciful God

Posted On Aug 11, 2007 // Lost Paradise//2 Comments

I was so surprised and delighted to read from Kak Yasmin Ahmad’s blog that her new film “Muallaf” bears the line ‘??????????’ from the very beginning. For those who don’t read chinese, it means “In the name of merciful God.” or more accurately ” Bismilah-i-rahman-i-rahim”. Now, to my surprise, the line is normally either in Arabic or Bahasa Malaysia, as in Kak Yasmin’s other films (Sepet, Gubra and Mukhsin), but Kak Yasmin inject fresh ideas into spreading her ever popular love of unifying Malaysians by putting “Bismilah-i-rahman-i-rahim” in Chinese characters. It sends me a message straightaway, that Islam doesn’t belong to a specific race (in which many still have this shallow thoughts of Islam=Malay or Islam=Arabs). It also means that God’s religion is universal and there is no harm of allowing other religions to flourish. I hate to say this but apparently, in Malaysia, many of those who think they are religious define religion differently. They normally believe in “Dominant Religion as well as Good Religion”. I was so annoyed when some would say, “convert to this religion and you’ll go to heaven easily”. Hell or heaven, it’s not the religion that decides, it’s you as a preacher. If you practice what you preach, and do more good than harm, regardless of whatever religion you belongs to, you’ll still go to heaven (that is if it really exists).
Kudos to Kak Yasmin for her effort again. Rarely we have seen a Malaysian with such great talents in expressing her thoughts into motion pictures. Despite many who have criticised you as “mencemarkan budaya, agama dan bangsa” (not to mention Sharifah Amani, whom i adore for her braveness in shaving her head for “Muallaf”), you have proven to them that your work of art is genuine from heart and not solely for commercial purposes. You, in fact, are making Malaysians like me, very proud!

EPL New Season (2007/08) - My Verdicts

Alright, no more dramas, no more talk shows, it’s time for English Premier League (EPL) football matches again!! Yippie!! Now it’s going to be the greatest season ever with the big Three spending their money, acquiring new bloods to mount a serious challenge for the EPL title. Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United all have spent more than 20 million pounds to bring in new players, with of course the Red Devils being the hottest money splashing club ever! But what will happen to Arsenal? After Henry left for Barcelona, Wenger only brought in two key signings, Eduardo da Silva and Bakary Sagna, apart from Fabianski as a backup keeper. If you’re thinking Arsenal have no chance to fight for the title, think again! The lack of pressure and expectations will give Arsenal young guns a better chance to show their best. Henry’s departure is not really a loss as you can see last season, with his lack of matches plus van Persie long absense from injury, Arsenal still managed to get into the fourth spot, with similar points as Liverpool, not to mention how the super young guns made it to the final or the League Cup. Remember, they fight against Chelsea multi-millions signings!
